wire South America & TUBOTECH 2017 Attract 12,000 Visitors The recent concurrent staging of wire South America 2017, International Wire and Cable Trade Fair and TUBOTECH 2017, International Trade Fair for Tubes & Pipes, Valves, Pumps, Fittings and Components, recorded a visitor increase: 12,000 trade visitors came to the Sao Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center in Brazil. The reserved investment approach during the past years seems to be over—interest in investing in Brazil and the rest of the South American market is rising and boosting prospects for good post-show business. Nevertheless, some firms were unsure and did not participate in the two trade fairs this year—a fact reflected by the exhibitor numbers. Leading up to the expected economic upswing, 116 companies from 22 countries presented their technological innovations at wire South America while 67 exhibitors from 10 nations showcased their products at TUBOTECH. For the second time, a national pavilion with 15 German companies presenting their products was organized in the wire and cable segment. In addition, wire South America featured country group exhibits from Italy and Austria. A total of 95% of the trade visitors came from Brazil, 5% from South and Central American countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Paraguay, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay as well as from Canada, China and India. European visitors travelled to the show from Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Turkey. The visitors were primarily from the oil, gas, automotive, construction, metal construction and mining industries. Messe Düsseldorf has already cooperated with its international partners for many years and together with CIPA Fiera Milano Brazil continuously works on the success of both trade fairs. wire South America 2017 was again supported by the international associations IWMA – International Wire & Machinery Association, IWCEA – International Wire & Cable Exhibitors Association, WCISA® – Wire and Cable Industry Suppliers Association® and ACIMAF – Italian Wire Machinery Manufacturers Association. The TUBOTECH 2017 trade show had conceptual and expert support from ITA – International Tube Association and the Brazilian professional association, ABITAM – Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Tubos e Accesórios de Metal. The metal trade fair duo will be held again from October 1 to 3, 2019, at the Sao Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center—this time in the new exhibition hall 1. These new products included the following. PROTON’s revolutionary InteliSENS SL/SLR Mini Series speed and length sensors—these are the smallest, fully featured noncontact laser Doppler speed and length sensors with a footprint comparable to a smart phone. The InteliSENS mini-series sensors are designed to replace inaccurate mechanical speed and length measurement devices with a sensor whose accuracy is better than ±0.05%. PROTON’s superfast InteliSENS DG-k Series Diameter Gauge—the smallest form-factor gauge in the DG-k series, it is ideal for insulation and small jacketing processes. The DG-k gauge is an advanced, solid-state LED and CCD instrument with no moving parts and a measurement rate of 10,000 times per axis per second for high-speed applications. PROTON’s new InteliTHERM HTG400 handheld wire temperature gauge—recently introduced to the market in the USA. This instrument is suitable for use on all bare wire types and comprises a special bimetallic wheel construction with integrated electronics for precise, responsive measurement performance. It provides high-precision wire temperature measurement of better than ±0.5°C up to 400°C (752°F). Other new enhanced PROTO N p r o d u c t s currently available include the InteliSENS ST-HF Series Spark Tester for high-frequency testing. This spark tester permits significant increases in line speed and productivity with complete coverage detection of the wire surface. All of PROTON Products instruments are supplied with intelligent, easy-tointegrate capabilities as standard that feature a broad range of embedded process interfaces. This includes Ethernet, RS-232 and WiFi communications with optional PROFIBUS, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Industrial Protocol IP that can be substituted for the Ethernet communications interface. www.protonproducts.com Fil-Tec’s Performance Yarns for Power, Copper, Fiber Optic & Specialty Cables Fil-Tec, Inc., Hagerstown, MD, USA, provides a complete line of performance yarns for application in power cables, copper and fiber optic telecom and specialty cables. Products include binder yarns with waterblocking, nonwicking, flame-retardant/ low-smoke finishes; core yarns; ripcords; filler yarns; marker yarns; and fiberglass reinforcement yarns. The newest yarn products include the following: • Dry Core Yarn for dry core designs. • Virtually dustless Water Blocking Binder Yarns for high speed. • New line of Water Blocking Yarns for Power Cable applications. Water swellable binder and core (wrap around the FRP) yarns offer: • Very low dust, extends life of bearings and other moving parts. • Less downtime due to mechanical maintenance related to SAP dust. • Less clean-up time. • Cleaner working environment. The company’s technology produces a water swellable binder with higher yield, and this means lower cost per kilometer of cable produced. It also produces a package that offers: • Excellent integrity and balance. • Run at 5000 rpm without vibration. • More meters per package, this means longer runs without a break and a more efficient stranding process overall. Also offered are various swell factors. This affords design engineers the flexibility to choose the size yarn and swell factor that best suits the cable. www.fil-tec.com
