Clay County’s new All-Hazard Preparedness Brochure John Ward, Emergency Management Director With the memory of Hurricane Matthew and Tropical Storm Hermine still fresh on the mind of the residents of Northeast Florida as we enter a new hurricane season, Clay County Emergency Management is making available copies of the county’s newly revised All-Hazard Preparedness Brochure within this issue of the Neighbor to Neighbor. This new brochure illustrates the county’s new evacuation zones which were refined after the county’s response to Hurricane Matthew. The brochure also contains information concerning a wide range of preparedness topics, from information about how to prepare for hurricanes, floods, wildfires and tornadoes, to how to deal with extreme temperatures, influenza and active assailants. In addition to the new brochure, Clay County Emergency Management is unveiling a new website which serves as a clearinghouse for all disaster related information: alert.claycountygov.com. On this website, Clay County residents can register to receive emergency alerts, find out their evacuation zone, register on to the county’s Special Medical Needs Registry as well as register their pets to utilize a pet-friendly shelter. Remember that developing a family disaster plan and stocking a disaster kit are the two best ways to prepare yourself and your family from the adverse impacts of a hurricane or other disaster.
