Appleby Quarterly Quarterly Winter 2012 : IFC

Celebrating our alumni By Guy McLean, Principal During Appleby’s centennial homecoming weekend celebrations, I had the pleasure to reconnect with a number of our alumni. Some had returned after graduating just last year, while others hadn’t been back to campus for quite some time. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and hear how they were enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with former classmates and faculty. For the last 10 decades, Appleby’s alumni has expanded to include more than 6,000 individuals worldwide, residing in countries around the globe. While alumni have gone on to pursue various professions, live in different parts of the world and are generations apart, one thing ties them together – the spirit that is associated with being not only a member of the Appleby community, but the Appleby alumni. Our alumni are an important part of the Appleby community. We believe that alumni engagement is vital to the success of the school. Their involvement plays a significant role in helping today’s students become tomorrow’s leaders and helping Appleby achieve our mission – which benefits us all: To educate and enable young men and women to become leaders of character, major contributors to, and valued representatives of their local, national and international communities. Many alumni have passed through our halls and in doing so have left their mark on the programs and experiences we offer students today. We are fortunate that many have come back to participate in school events, class reunions, our centennial celebrations as well as volunteer to take on the role of guest speaker in the classroom. The opportunities for alumni to be involved with Appleby are abundant, we want to make the connection with Appleby a lifelong one. Please join me in celebrating our alumni. EDITOR’S NOTE Welcome to a special issue of the Quarterly – Celebrating Our Alumni. This issue contains a series of new sections designed to showcase the achievements and accomplishments, memories and recollections of our alumni. We hope you enjoy.
