By Michael Niziolek l Disney looks like it will bring its prequel to “ The Wizard of Oz ” to Michigan later this year and film in the new Raleigh Studios in Pontiac. Sam Raimi , a Michigan native, is attached to direct the feature titled “ Oz: The Great and Powerful. ” In January, The Detroit Free Press reported that a big time tax credit hit the desks of the Michigan Film Office for a production with a budget of over $100 million. It was approved and while no title was listed on the applica-tion, the production company was listed as Emerald City Productions – a reference to the city in the book and film. Robert Downey Jr. was initially approached to star, but then dropped out of the project and Disney thought it found his replacement in Johnny Depp (who has since dropped out as well). Michigan State Senator Rick Jones did an interview defending the state’s tax credits and let slip some information about where the next Batman film “ Dark Knight Rises ” might film later this year. He said Warner Brothers scouted locations in Grand Ledge, specifically Fitzgerald Park, the city’s water treatment plant and the underground vault area. The yet unreleased remake of “ Red Dawn ” shot scenes there last year. Jones said he learned of the information from the Director of Eaton County Parks. The film stars Christian Bale as Batman and it was announced in January that Anne Hathaway will be part of the cast as Selina Kyle. In the comics Kyle is the true identity of Cat Woman.
