Not everyone can travel for training, so MPI will be at eight locations in October. Topics include the value of a chart of accounts; understanding fund accounting and how bud-gets, financial reports and regular reconciliations lead to good audits and examinations that are newly required by state law. The Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute (MPI) is On- The-Road bringing specialized accounting training to cities. Not everyone can travel for training, so MPI will be at eight locations in October.

The Iowa unclaimed property law, Code of Iowa Chapter 556, requires all cities to report and submit all unclaimed property to the State Treasurer’s office. This report must be filed on or before November 1 of each year, covering items that are undeliverable to the owner and unclaimed for the specified period, known as a dormancy period. Penalties and interest of up to 25 percent of the unclaimed property could be assessed if not filed correctly or on time.
