SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION PHYSICIAN PROFILES JACK A. ELIAS, M.D. The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University JACK A. ELIAS, M.D. , began his tenure as dean of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in September 2013 and brings decades of experience as a clinician, researcher and national leader in academic medicine to Rhode Island. A preeminent physician-scientist, Dean Elias is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science. He is board certified in pulmonary and critical care medicine and allergy and clinical immunology. His National Institutes of Health-funded research on lung injury and repair has led to numerous important discoveries about asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis and the effects of smoking. Dean Elias previously served as chair of the Depart-ment of Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine and physician-in-chief of Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is past president of the Association of American Physicians. As the state’s only school of medicine, Alpert Medical School plays a key role in the health and wellness of Rhode Island.
