Beginning January 1, 2014, the standard mileage for the use of a car, van or truck is: • 56 cents per mile for business miles driven • 23.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations Cities may reimburse city officials and employees using their own vehicles up to the IRS mileage rate. The IRS can adjust the rates during the year to reflect changes in the economy and fuel prices. City information update drive in full swing As part of our City Information Update Drive following the municipal elections, the Iowa League of Cities asks city clerks to update city official contact information. This information is vital to the League’s advocacy and training efforts. We began by emailing Excel workbooks to city clerks in November. In December, we sent postal mailings to cities that had not yet responded. We’re excited to report that more than half the cities in the state responded electronically by December 1. The deadline for this information was January 2, 2014. Beginning January 16, League staff will call cities that have not yet responded to our mailings. If we’re not able to reach the city clerk, we may reach out to the other city of-ficials or local county officials for help collecting this information. Our thanks for your assistance with this gargantuan task! Legislative Day 2014 Join us Tuesday, February 4, 2014, for the League’s annual Legislative Day. The day will begin at the Iowa State Capitol at 10 a.m. where you can meet with your local legisla-tors with the assistance of League staff. A general session at the Embassy Suites Hotel located in Des Moines’s East Village will begin after lunch. During the session members will hear from the League legislative team and other officials on specific topics. Legisla -tors and representatives from state departments will be invited to join members for a legislative reception following the general session.
