Most staff will have limited or no access to email and voicemail dur-ing this time. We’re excited to see so many of you in Dubuque! One Day Safety University The Iowa Municipal Workers’ Compensation Association will host the fifth annual One Day Safety University, Tuesday, October 15 in Ankeny. Workshop topics are tar -geted towards safety coordinators, safety committee members, supervisors and anyone interested in safety. The event provides the opportunity to learn from industry experts and each other as well as network with peers. There is no cost to IMWCA members to attend. This year’s agenda features a presentation by an industry expert in Arc Flash and NFPA 70E, a human resource expert and member panel discussing hiring and functional capacity examinations, and a panel of members and agents providing tips on engaging councils and boards in the safety of the organization. Staff will provide information on safety manual basics, seat belt usage strategies, and an update on volunteer firefighter issues, including a representative from Iowa Firefighters Resource, whose mission is to ensure all Iowa fire departments operate as safely as possible while on duty so Everyone Goes Home! Registration opens at 8:30 with the sessions beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding by 4 p.m. with lunch provided. Learn more at www.imwca.org or contact Losscontrol@iowaleague.org for more information. League updates open meetings, records publications The League recently updated publications that provide guidance on open meetings and open records to reflect recent changes in the laws, including the inclusion of the Iowa Public Information Board in the section that provides guidance on enforcement. The two publications, Open Records, Open Government and Open Meetings, Open Government , include commonly asked questions and basic compliance information. Download the publications for free on the League Web site, or order hard copies using the order form on the site, www.iowaleague.org in the Publications section of the Member Resources area. Hard copies of a combined version of the publications cost $2.50 each. Annual Street Financial Report due September 30 Cities are required to submit the annual Street Financial Report (SFR) to the Iowa Department of Transportation by September 30. The report must be filed electronically. Using the electronic form allows for some data to be pre-filled and reduces the amount of data a city needs to enter. Cities that fail to submit the SFR by the deadline will have their Road Use Tax Fund distribution withheld until they are in compliance.
