Guest’s Viewpoint l Welcome to Dubuque t is an honor to welcome you to the city of Dubuque for the Iowa League of Cit-ies Annual Conference & Exhibit. It has been my privilege to represent Dubuque in the Iowa Legislature for the past 20 years. Over those years, the city I’ve called home for my entire life has been transformed by an economic and cultural renais-sance that was sparked by the Vision Iowa Program. Although the funding from Vision Iowa, as well as other competitive grants, provided the fuel for progress, the real engine for change was the willingness of community and neighborhood leaders to work togeth-er to develop and implement a common plan for growth and revitalization. So, while you are tending to business, I hope you will make the time to explore the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, take a stroll along the river walk, board a river ride for a cruise on America’s River and take in the breathtaking fall foli-age along the bluffs of the Mississippi River, enjoy fine dining or a cup of coffee at one of the cafes that have located in one of dozens of refurbished storefronts along Main Street, or browse the lovely boutique gift shops. Finally, let me personally thank you for your service to your community and our State. Just as the downtowns are the heart and soul of our cities, the cities are the heart and soul of our beautiful State. Warm wishes for a productive and enjoyable conference.
