Q Your Skinformation I had a CoolSculpting treatment done on my tummy last year, and I got a bit of attening, which was nice. However, my friend had it done and it really attened her tummy and slimmed her waistline. She said the machine was applied on several body areas---it sounded completely di erent from my treatment. Can you explain what she had done? Techniques have evolved with the CoolSculpting procedure, and what your friend had done is now the preferred method, called “Treatment to Transformation.” With this technique, the CoolSculpting applicators are used to achieve more fat reduction and custom contouring than was possible in the past. A session takes more than the one hour that you had, and patients are more impressed with 8 Weeks After their results. Q A I have an uneven complexion, with brown patches. I was using a prescription lightening cream, but I have become allergic to the hydroquinone ingredient. What can I use instead? For many years, hydroquinone was just about the only e ective skin lightening ingredient available. In recent years, however, a number of products have been developed that fade brown spots without using hydroquinone, and we recommend these for many patients. No matter which bleaching product you use, sun protection and avoidance are key to getting good results. In addition many people appreciate the preservative free nature of Lytera. Dermaceutic Spot Cream $140 SkinMedica Lytera Complex $125 A Before Q A I have acne scars on my face which I am very self-conscious about. Most of the treatments I have read about involve lasers, but I don’t think it’s safe for me to have laser treatment because my skin is dark brown. What do you think? Email your questions to: skinexperts@skinspectrum.com Acne scarring is one of the most common problems that people seek help for in our practice. If you came in, we would indeed probably recommend laser as part of your treatment plan. As you are aware, laser safety is a concern in skin of color. We use the Laser Genesis, which is safe for all skin colors. It re nes pores, red and brown discoloration and painlessly softens acne scars.
