The Blueprint Page 2 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE September 2012 Message from the President — Well here’s my stab at my 33 monthly message to my fellow members in 350 words or less. I had the privilege of having breakfast with our U.S. Repre-sentative Dan Benishek this week and had his ear to raise his own awareness of issues facing our housing industry and homeownership. Two of his staff were taking notes fastidiously so I gave them handouts to save them from writing so much so they could listen, too. I encourage you all get involved in this year’s election campaigns and meet the men and women wanting to represent you, your family and your business. Are their views really similar to yours? Or do they just share the same party affiliation? I’m not Democrat or Republican so I give my support to the candidate that is going to work hard to represent my view, too. Our October membership meeting will feature a “Meet the Candidates Night” so you can one stop shop, so to speak. Speaking of “One Stop Shopping,” are you using your MAHB member Meijer discount card? If not, you’re missing out on potentially hundreds of dollars in savings which can offset your membership dues. Such a program like the Meijer card gave us the idea to try this on a local level, our own Member -to -Member discount card? Have you heard we’re starting this? Is your busi-ness participating? What’s your offer going to be? Don’t miss out on attracting more sales, reaching a new customer and retaining existing ones. Call the office today to find out how you can participate. The Board of Directors took a well -deserved month off from meeting in August but that doesn’t mean we weren’t watching the horizon. We’ve scheduled a “Planning Day” in October to do some short and long -term strategic planning. I invite you to share your thoughts by phone, email or in person to make sure, just like the people in the elections, we’re representing you and your business interests’ in our efforts as an association.
