Q Your Skinformation I have liver spots on the backs of my hands, which I think makes them look very old. Is there a good way of removing these? Q A These much-despised brown spots are actually caused by the sun, so they show up on areas such as the hands, which are exposed to the sun on a daily basis. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment is a popular and effective way to remove them. An added benefit is that the texture of the skin improves, too. A As I get older, I notice that my hands have gotten to look very bony. I’ve read that there is a treatment for this---can you tell me if it works? Many of our patients share your concern, because hands that are too gaunt are very aging to our appearance. Products such as Restylane® and Juvederm® often are injected into the hands to fill in the hollowness, immediately creating a softer and more youthful appearance that can last for years. ` Q A I have varicose veins, but they are not on my legs, they are on the backs of my hands. I really dislike the way that they look, and I would like to know if something can be done about them. As the skin on our hands ages, it becomes thin and can no longer hide the veins there. These can be improved by sclerotherapy treatment, in which a medication is placed into the unwanted vein, which then gradually flattens or disappears, making the hands look smoother and younger.
