Editor’s Note RHODE ISLAND has always meant vacation to me. Before I moved to the state, I would travel here several times a year to visit my sister and her family. Whether it was Christmas or sum-mertime, she and my brother-in-law always planned something fun for my niece, nephew and any visiting relatives. “Nothing’s more than a forty-five-minute drive in Rhode Island,” she’d say. So before I moved to the Ocean State, I’d gotten a tour of some of the best of Rhode Island. I’d eaten grilled pizza on Federal Hill, cheered at a P-Bruins game, cruised along the East Bay Bike Path, window-shopped in Newport, kayaked in Charlestown, skated in Kennedy Plaza and gotten sunburned in Narragansett. Since I’ve always associated Rhode Island with family and fun, it wasn’t a hard decision to move here. Now (weather permitting) I can take advantage all the time of what makes Rhode Island great. And there’s nothing like summer in the Ocean State. So whether you’re a native or a newbie, it’s time to get out and enjoy the sunshine. –Jen McCaffery, Associate Editor Ghost Tours • Gallery Exhibits Wedding & Event Facilities Visit our website for more details: www.slatermill.org Slater Mill also offers: 67 Roosevelt Avenue Pawtucket, RI 02862-0696 www.slatermill.org (401) 725-8638 4 RHODE ISLAND MONTHLY I RHODE TRIPS I 2012
