My ill wife and pre-term baby took priority, as they should. Thank you Ann, for being understanding and Nicki, for taking over my duties at the show. My wife Alicia and little Preston are now doing great. Thanks for all the calls of concern and encouragement from my INLA family! This Association has been a part of my life since I was very small and watched my Dad participate and serve. Yes, I’m a second generation President, sorry if I just dated some of you. I look forward to an exciting year serving as President of the INLA. I am here to serve each of you in any way I can and to continue to strengthen this great Idaho Industry. Yale Youngblood recently stated in Garden Center Magazine, “This isn’t your Grandfather’s horticulture world.” As we focus on 2012, note how many things have changed and impacted our industry the past handful of years. We all need to continue to find ways to adapt, improve and find success in the current horticulture atmosphere in which we find ourselves. Rather than waiting around for the seemingly elusive “catalyst of growth,” make your own. As Youngblood mentions, it’s hard to find many positive adjectives in the horticulture vernacular at the outset of this year. Many are using words like frightening, of Outdoor Handheld challenging, foreboding or devastating. As we assess Power Equipment in our fields, stores, greenhouses and goals I hope as INLA members we’re replacing these words with ones like promising, growing, achieving, and winning because it’s up to us. Let’s take what we’ve learned and “Let’s Grow Together” this year!
