The 2016–2017 term was a great one for SAA interns, and we’re grateful to all who served on SAA appointed groups and sections! Check out what they were able to accomplish: The American Archivist Editorial Board—Dana Bronson compiled listings of key articles in the journal to better promote these important pieces on the SAA website. Committee on Education— Special Projects member Shanee’ Murrain conducted research on the history of graduate archival education to analyze how the need for theory is in tension with the need for job skills/practicum and presented her findings at the 2017 SAA Annual Meeting. Committee on Public Policy—Mohamed Haian Abdirahman wrote an article, “A Close Call: Advocates Save the Georgia Archives,” featured in the November/December 2016 issue of Archival Outlook. Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Subcommittee—Monique Lassere conducted data analysis of current job postings related to digital archives across various work settings to ensure the relevance of SAA’s DAS curriculum. Diversity Committee—Dorothy Berry helped to organize and chaired the 2017 SAA Diversity Forum, which featured a panel of archivists from a variety of backgrounds who explored the personal and structural state of “inclusive” archives. Dictionary Working Group—Katy Sternberger assisted with implementation of the dictionary software and led a small group to migrate terminology records. Intellectual Property Working Group—Jasmine Jones traveled to Washington, DC, as part of a lobbying delegation with working group member Peter Hirtle and SAA Past President Dennis Meissner. Publications Board—Anna Trammel reconciled the SAA publications in the HathiTrust with those still listed in the SAA bookstore, developed marketing materials, and reached out to potential reviewers for new publications. Standards Committee—Michelle Janowiecki evaluated the Standards Portal for currency and gaps and managed the committee’s documentation for the year. Acquisitions & Appraisal Section—Kira Baker assisted with social media and communication efforts, and produced short-form content for the section blog. Privacy & Confidentiality Section—Lauren Wittek created a WordPress blog for the section and added recommended readings and current news articles to the website. Visual Materials Section—Nicola Shayer headed the section’s fledgling social media working group to plan new initiatives.
