This is a FREE event for all kids ages 1-10. The second annual opening day ceremonies for the Fleming Island Athletics Association were held at 9 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Paul C. Armstrong Park on SR 220. Over 540 boys and girls participated in the gathering on the chilly morning but the weather quickly warmed up and the first games of the season began at 10:30 AM. According to FIAA Vice-President Johnny Robinson, baseball is not the only sport that the association is involved in, "Well, here at FIAA, we have multi sports. We have football, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and cheer. And this community here, it's baseball at Armstrong Park. Last year we had close to 500 kids within Fleming Island come here to play baseball and softball." Mr. Robinson said the number of kids playing ball this spring grew tremendously, "Our number increased, so we're looking at anywhere from 800 to a thousand kids here along at Armstrong Park, and we have another park, Tanglewood. It's really exciting, we're busting at the seams here at Fleming Island." The vice-president elaborated on the different levels of little league participation, "We play machine-pitch, slow-pitch, and then fast-pitch.
