The unofficial start to Christmas in Green Cove Springs began at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2016 as Santa Claus himself arrived into town atop a 1911 hook-and-ladder fire engine in lieu of his traditional sleigh during Green Cove Springs Christmas Parade. The procession began near the intersection of US-17 and Magnolia Street and continued south to Palmer Street. Prior to the parade, the annual Jingle Bell Walk/Run took place at 1:45 PM. Over 200 adults and children participated in the fun run and were cheered on by the thousands of people who had lined the parade route. Dozens of Christmas-themed floats, six fire engines, a couple of dance troupes, a pack of Ford Mustangs, ten decorated jeeps, and the girl and the boy scouts made their way slowly down the one-mile parade route which took 45 minutes to pass and about 90 minutes to complete.
