Regretfully, according to the Iowa Department of Human Services in 2006, a total of 1,728 cases of child abuse and neglect were confirmed. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services reported that in 2007 there where 111,742 reports of child abuse and neglect. Of those reports 28,516 where found indi- cated of child abuse and neglect. An estimated one-third of abused and neglected children will eventually victimize their own children. As a result, the Child Abuse Council’s mission is to lead community efforts to eliminate child abuse and neglect by strengthening children and families through treatment, education, and prevention.
