Birmingham ALABAMA Birmingham CrossPlex Setting a New Standard for Indoor Competition SINCE OPENING ITS DOORS IN THE FALL OF 2011, the 800,000- square-foot Birmingham CrossPlex has changed the landscape of indoor track & field in Alabama and given athletes a new reason to compete. Hosting over 150 events each year, the CrossPlex is a multi-sport competition venue designed with the athlete and spectator in mind. Its indoor hydraulic track is only one of 10 in the world. In 2013, the CrossPlex hosted its first NCAA National Championship, which was actually five sports all at once (men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and wrestling). Since then, the CrossPlex has hosted over 25 conference championships and was awarded 11 NCAA National Championships through 2018, including the 2016 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championship. The CrossPlex offers three separate venues that can host multiple events simultaneously. The 5,000-seat arena can hold concerts, basketball, volleyball and wrestling tournaments. The Olympicsize pool’s settings include two-25 yard pools, a 50-meter pool, water polo and synchronized swimming. The CrossPlex also features a nine-court volleyball venue that has hosted the AHSAA girls’ volleyball state championship which drew the largest crowd to see a girls’ volleyball championship in the country (17,000+/- fans) in 2015. The City of Birmingham and the Birmingham CrossPlex will play host to the 2017 National Senior Games and the 2021 World Games. The venue has set a new standard in how indoor sports are played.
