COLLIER COUNTY NAPLES SHARKS SOCCER CLUB 2010 Regi on Cup Report Six Naples Sharks teams advanced after the first weekend of Region C Cup action on February 20‐21. The following teams move on to the quarterfinal round: U11 Girls Red in Division 2, U12 Girls Red in Division 1, U11 Boys Red in Division 1, and U13 Boys Red in Division 2. The U11 Boys White and U12 Boys Red advance to the round of 16 in Division 2. Quarterfinal and round of 16 games will be played March 6‐7. Older teams playing region cup will see action this coming weekend: U14, U15, and U16 Boys and the U15 and U17 girls. Sharks Claim Two Champs and a Finalist in Southwest Florida League Tournament U12 Wh it e gi rl s In their first match against the Cape Coral the U12 White Sharks were only able to field seven players. The Cape coach showed great sportsman‐ ship and elected to play with only seven as well. At the first water break, the score was Cape 1 Sharks 0. Addison Bliss scored her first goal of the season during the second quarter, off a corner kick. A sub‐ sequent goal by Tristan Stoddart and another from Addie put Naples in a 3 ‐3 tie at the half. The win‐ ning goal came off the foot of Addie late in the half. The midfielders, Lindsey Tomaini, Abby O’Hara, and Jenna Suid worked hard to get the ball forward in the attack. In the back, Taylor Williams and Shea Driscoll kept the ball away from our goal. Goalkeep‐ ing was split between Jenna and Abby. The second game on Saturday was won by forfeit. In the Southwest Florida League tournament held February 6‐ 7 in North Fort Myers Naples Youth Soccer Club had three teams in championships. The U11 White boys team won the U12 Silver division, the U12 White boys team won the U12 Gold division and the U12 White girls team was runner‐up in the U12 Girls Silver division. U12 White boys report The U12 White Sharks were a perfect 4‐0 in the tournament scoring 17 goals while giving up only 6. The highlight of their championship drive was beating a tough Lehigh Lightning team, 3‐2, after being beaten by them in league play by a cumulative score of 8‐1. The Sharks were led in attack up front by Samuel Martinez, Alan Reyes‐Juarez, and Christian Reyes‐Juarez. Controlling the midfield were Eduardo Monsivais‐Escobedo, Darren Rackleff, and Jose Flores. Supporting the attack in the back and de‐ fending were Eric Asteberg, Jesse Crum, Lance Vonrintein, and Nate Frizzi. The goalkeepers for the tournament were Colin Sweeney and Gerardo Perez‐Hernandez. The Naples Sharks U‐12 White team is coached by David Due‐ nas and Paul Nick and trained by Bob Ladimar. Sunday morning dawned and the original seven were joined by Abby Garner, Danielle Griffin and Taylor Griffin for the match against the host North Fort Myers. The Sharks started the match strong with a goal by Addison. The second Naples goal came from Danielle, the team's smallest player, with an assist from Lindsey. The girls continued to play hard and at the half were up 2 ‐1. In the sec‐ ond half the Knights scored and tied it up. A break‐ away by Addison brought the goalie out of the goal allowing Addison to get a great shot off to put the Sharks up by one. A Naples hand ball in the box resulted in a PK and a goal that tied the game just before the whistle blew. The entire team made contributions to move the Sharks into the finals. The final match was against ICSA. Great goalkeep‐ ing by Jenna kept the score to 3‐0. The girls fought hard but could not convert shots into goals. After a difficult season, the final score was not a defeat.
