Recent News on SportsDestinations.com 2017 P&G Gymnastics Championships Coming to Anaheim’s Honda Center USA Gymnastics and Anaheim Sports announced that the 2017 P&G Gymnastics Championships, the national championships for men’s and women’s gymnastics, will be held in the city of Anaheim for the first time. Scheduled for Aug. 17-20, 2017, the country’s best gymnasts will compete in the four-day competition at Honda Center. Also, the USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center Aug. 17-19. Botetourt County to Host Special Olympics Softball The Special Olympics NIT Softball Tournament will be hosted in Botetourt County, Virginia, from Aug. 18-21, 2016. A total of 32 traditional and Unified Sports teams from across the United States as well as Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America will converge on Botetourt County for the 2016 Special Olympics North America Softball Invitational Tournament. It will be held at the Botetourt Sports Complex and Moyer Sports Complex. Tri-Valley to Host USA Water Polo The USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program National Championships will have a new location come 2017 and 2018 as the ODP pipeline will flow through the Tri-Valley area of Northern California. After considering five locations throughout the United States, USA Water Polo will bring the country’s preeminent age group water polo development events to the Tri-Valley, a fourcity cluster just 45 minutes east of San Francisco. Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon will serve as the championship venue for both the boy’s and girl’s competition with dates to be announced for each event. Powerlifting Championships Coming to Erie The Erie Sports Commission has announced the 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation will host its 2016 World Championships in Erie. The event, which is coming to Erie for the first time, will be held Oct. 7-9 at the Bayfront Convention Center. Paul Bossi, President of 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation, anticipates athletes from Israel, India, Ukraine, South Africa, Italy and Canada will travel to Erie for the competition, in addition to a vast field from the United States. Between 300 and 400 competitors are expected. U. S. Drone Racing Championships Announced The 2016 U.S. National Drone Racing Championships is the official 2016 World Drone Racing Championships qualifier event for the United States. The 2016 World Drone Racing Championships will take place at Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii – Oct. 17- Oct 22. Winners from the Drone Nationals will be selected to represent Team USA for all the categories, including Individual, Freestyle, Wing and others. Qualifying events will be presented around the USA. National Equestrian Event Coming to Virginia The Land Rover Great Meadow International will be at The Plains, Virginia, from July 9-10, 2016. The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) have chosen the FEI Nations Cup™ Eventing competition to be held outside Europe. The event, the only U.S. leg of the series, will be held at the picturesque Great Meadow and will also host the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team in its final preparation trial prior to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Maine to Host 2016 PDGA United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship The Maine Sports Commission has announced that Sabattus, Maine, has been chosen as the tournament location for the 2016 Professional Disc Golf Association United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship. The tournament will be held from Sept. 23-25, 2016. The USWDGC will be held at the Sabattus Disc Golf Complex, one of the rising stars of the many disc golf complexes across the country. The Northeast is a region of the United States that has not seen a PDGA major tournament to date. The tournament is presented by the PDGA, which sanctions well over 2,000 tournaments in 49 states and 27 countries each year, for both professional and amateur disc golfers.
