SPORTS IN PURSUIT OF THE PLAID While the new name of the Fort Worth tournament formerly known as the Colonial isn't rolling off the tongues of local golf fans quite yet, everyone perks up when you mention Jordan Spieth. The 22-year-old arrives at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational as a likely favorite despite a heartbreaking Masters meltdown, partly because he handles his losses with class and mainly because of his world-class golf game. Here are five more reasons we'll root for the Dallas native when he steps onto the storied Colonial Country Club course, which is celebrating 70 years as event host: 1 His caddy used to be a math teacher. 3 He roots for the home teams: Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks and Stars. 2 His Instagram account is incredibly normal for a sports superstar. 4 At 22, he has already started a foundation — the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation — inspired by Ellie, his autistic sister. 5 Spieth wrote a thank-you letter to Peggy Nelson, Byron's widow, after she contributed to the foundation, telling her Byron was one of his role models. Sometimes good guys do finish first. Dean & DeLuca Invitational, May 26-29. 3735 Country Club Circle, Fort Worth; for ticket information, deananddelucainvitational.com.
