It’s been a helluva year and one that deserves to be celebrated. in this Technology, Innovation and Engineering Excellence issue, we are first proud to celebrate engineering achievements - from our cover feature highlighting the standard-setting projects named ACEC Georgia’s 2016 Engineering Excellence Awards to our third feature which shines a spotlight on the professional achievements of the individuals who received Engineer of the Year Awards from the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers. In addition to honoring these past achievements, we also look ahead in our second feature to how autonomous, connected and “smart” vehicles will change the way we drive (or are being driven, as the case may be) in a future that’s closer than you may think. And with this, our seventh issue, we also celebrate the one-year anniversary of Engineering Georgia’s launch. Looking back, I am proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time - and the level of quality we’ve been able to achieve. Our Editor-in-Chief, Sasha Ugi, our entire Editorial Board and the countless individuals who have contributed ideas, time and resources to this publication deserve much of the credit. While I am admittedly biased, I believe that the team of folks who make this magazine happen have consistently achieved the goal of making each issue better than the last. However, what I am most proud of is that we are still focused on the goal that led us to initially publish this magazine - to raise the profile of Georgia’s engineers and engineering companies with the people who hire engineering firms and influence the industry. ACEC Georgia, along with ASCE, ASHE, GEF, GSPE, ITE, ITS, SAME, SEAOG and WTS set out to create a magazine featuring content that would be of interest to those inside and outside of engineering, and in the process, share more about our industry and its many important contributions to our state. Even a year later, I still celebrate when people mention to me that they saw the latest issue and enjoyed a particular article. This is the one and only official magazine of Georgia’s engineering industry and if you are a part of engineering in Georgia then it is your magazine. As it continues to grow and evolve, I hope you will take the time to let us know how we can make it a better magazine for you, your company and our industry. As always, you can reach me on my cell phone (770) 3563769 or by email at email@example.com. I’d love to hear from you. On behalf of our entire team and Editorial Board, thank you for spending the past year with us!
