Anne Wells is the new audiovisual archivist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she will work on a three-year grant project in the Southern Folklife Collection to develop an integrated system for managing sound and moving-image materials from accession through digitization as well as process and catalog SFC collections. She holds a BA in art history from DePaul University and an MLIS with a certificate in special collections from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. David Gray has been appointed the director for Library Services, Welder Library, University of Mary, in Bismarck, North Dakota. Gray recently retired after 27 years as a captain in the United States Navy. Richard Szary, director of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library and Associate University Librarian for Special Collections, will retire February 1, 2016, after a forty-year career in archives and special collections. Szary joined the UNC Library in 2006, coming from Yale University, where he was the Carrie S. Beinecke Director of Manuscripts and Archives and University Archives. Szary was named a Fellow of SAA in 2000. New SAA Staffers Abigail Christian is SAA’s new editorial and production coordinator. Originally from Wisconsin, Abigail got her MFA in poetry at Columbia College Chicago and is the poetry editor for The Lettered Streets Press. Her first full-length book, girls their tongues (Orange Monkey Publishing), is forthcoming in the spring. She’s excited to delve into the world of archives and the stories they hold. Michael Santiago is SAA’s new member service representative. Michael grew up on the north side of Chicago in the middle of Humboldt Park and Wicker Park. He went to Dominican University in River Forest and studied nutrition and dietetics. After working in the nutrition field, he transitioned into retail banking as he always had a passion for operations and customer service. He’s excited for this new opportunity at SAA.
