Looking Forward to a Legendary Fall WOW. SOME SUMMER THAT WAS. Between the FIFA scandal, the Women’s World Cup, the Confederate flag’s presence at universities and NASCAR, the Pan Am Games, the end of #Boston2024 and a host of other developments, the sports world has been buzzing. Now, as we turn our attention to the fall, we can hope for an equally eventful (but less contentious) season. Not that we’ll lack for excitement. The Summer Olympics in Rio are less than a year away. That means the opportunity to highlight and grow those sports that are sometimes eclipsed by more mainstream events. In the past, NGBs have referred to the Beijing Bounce and the London Lift to describe the growth their sports see as a result of increased exposure. Here’s hoping the Rio Rebound gives your sport its chance to shine. This issue is all about helping you prepare for the new sports season and for the new growth it can bring We have some great articles on event security, options for transportation and negotiating with facility vendors. There’s also a feature on the invaluable art of leveraging the CVB/sports commission relationship for maximum success. Some of what you’ll be seeing at the Olympics this summer – gymnastics, cycling and water sports, for example, are covered in this issue. There is also a feature on softball facilities, which should provide insights into the spread of this sport across the U.S. Don’t miss the article on the Southwest and Pacific regions as sports destinations as well. Our Executive Insights piece deals with the NCAA – something you won’t want to miss. What else can you learn? Plenty! Check out our Industry Leadership section, focusing on Outstanding Facilities. If you’ve been searching for a new venue or just want to take stock of your options, now is a great time. We invite you to follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and to keep up with our website, sportsdestinations.com.
