Hires, Promotions, Honors & Transactions Russell McMurry Named New Georgia DOT Commissioner 25-year Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) veteran, Russell McMurry, has been unanimously elected by the 14-member State Transportation Board to assume the role of commissioner of the Department of Transportation. Since 1990, McMurry has risen through the ranks at GDOT from civil engineering trainee to Chief Engineer and now to commissioner. In this newest role, he succeeds Keith Golden, who served as GDOT commissioner for nearly three years and ends his long-standing tenure with the department in late March. In a press release issued by GDOT, McMurry stated, “I am humbled, honored and thankful to the Board for the confidence they have shown in me. I will give my best to continue the great teamwork we have here at Georgia DOT – and it is a truly great team, 4,110 people strong – to put our best foot forward and do our very best, always, for the people of Georgia.” Alexi Neill Named Senior Project Manager Geocomp, headquartered in Boston, MA, has promoted Alexi Neill, P.E. to Senior Project Manager, as well as Group Leader of Consulting Services for its Atlanta, GA office. Alexi has over 10 years of extensive experience installing and managing geotechnical and structural instrumentation projects for performance monitoring of high risk construction. Margaret “Meg” Pirkle Named New Chief Engineer for Georgia DOT On January 1, 2015, Margaret “Meg” Pirkle succeeded Russell McMurry in the position as GDOT’s Chief Engineer. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, with a degree, in Civil Engineering, Pirkle has been employed by GDOT for over 26 years. Pirkle offers an exceptional and diverse engineering resume, along with the noteworthy fact that she is GDOT’s first female Chief Engineer — one of only a handful of women holding that title in Transportation Departments across the country. ACEC Welcomes Two New Staff Members ACEC Georgia welcomed two new staff members in early 2015. Filling the role as Director of Communications & Marketing, Sasha Ugi leads efforts on all internal and external communications, program and event marketing and public and press relations for the organization. Nikki Welch also joined the team to serve as the Event & Communications Manager, assisting with a range of special projects and programs.
