DE SIGN AWARD S 2009 Remarkable rehabs, impressive new builds — the envy-inducing winners of our annual Design Awards never cease to amaze and inspire. ■ BY MEGAN FULWEILER Not that we want to blow our own horn, but 2009 marks our 15th Annual Design Awards. Considering the whiplash speed with which things come and go these days, we have to admit to feeling a tad like proud parents. This summer’s deadline brought us another horde of outstanding entries. Were they richer and more diverse than ever? We thought so, but then every year we’re newly impressed. Several churches (who would have guessed?), an inge- nious addition and an irresistible twenty-first- century home — wait ’til you see. Our stellar judges labored to cull the final winners. Many thanks to Tom S. Chung, senior associate with Leers Weinzapfel Architects, Boston; Jinhee Park, prin- cipal with SsD, Boston; and Susan Shulman, principal of Susan Shulman Interiors (shulmanin- teriors.com) and a participant in the Boston Design Center’s Designer on Call program. We couldn’t have managed without them and — it goes without repeating — all the talented peo- ple who, once again, willingly shared their fab- ulous work.
