Recent News on SportsDestinations.com Orlando, Florida, to Host AAU Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Orlando, Florida, will be the host of the AAU Boys Junior National Volleyball Championships, to take place June 19-22. The venue will be the Orlando Sports Center. The Championships will be conducted in a format that will determine National Champions in each age division, as well as providing the maximum amount of playing time for each team. Pool play preliminary rounds will determine placement and seeding of each team in the bracket rounds. Teams will have three days of competition. Sport Circuits Launches "Hola Run" Series A new Hispanic outreach nationwide running series will be hosting events in Los Angeles, Raleigh, Dallas, Chicago and Miami in 2014 Mexico City-based race organizers Sport Circuits believe the U.S. Hispanic community should be up and running. That is the motivation behind the new family run/walk series, Hola Run™, which kicked off on Saturday, May 3 at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose. Adrian Soria Bejar, founder of Sport Circuits, announced that the new nationwide series. “This series was created to engage and activate Hispanic communities around the country. We believe it can inspire families to live healthier and prevent child obesity through a fun community event,” Bejar said. Table Tennis Coming to Eau Claire The National Collegiate Table Tennis Association announced that the 2015 College Table Tennis National Championships will be held at the McPhee Physical Education Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire on April 9-12, 2015. The Visit Eau Claire Sports Commission partnered with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Table Tennis Club to bid for the championships against three other destinations. These three competing destinations included Marshfield, WI, Hampton, VA, and South Bend, IN. This event is the first sporting event secured with the university since the signing of the groundbreaking memorandum of agreement for facility usage between UW-Eau Claire and Visit Eau Claire. "This is exactly the kind of result we envisioned when we entered into our agreement with Visit Eau Claire. Working together is a powerful way for us to achieve mutual goals of increasing tourism to benefit our campus and community," said James Schmidt, UW-Eau Claire Chancellor. Boston Marathon’s Economic Impact Could Exceed $175 Million The 118th Boston Marathon® on Monday, April 21, 2014, and surrounding Marathon-related events including the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo and the B.A.A. 5K, were expected to bring an estimated $175.8 million (USD) in spending impact to the Greater Boston region, the highest-ever Boston Marathon spending impact, according to Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) President and CEO Patrick Moscaritolo. “The spending impact of the 118th Boston Marathon provides a huge economic benefit for our visitor industry and it kick starts our spring tourism season,” said Moscaritolo. Independence, Missouri, to Host 2015 NCRHA Championships The Independence Tourism Department and the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) announced that the 16th Annual National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships will be held in Independence, Missouri. For the week of April 8 – 13, 2015, the Independence Events Center will convert its two ice rinks to roller hockey rinks, bringing approximately 60 teams from four divisions (Division I, Division II, Junior College Division, and B Division) together to compete for the title of Collegiate Roller Hockey National Champion. The event will be hosted by the NCRHA in conjunction with the City of Independence and the Independence Events Center. “This is truly a power play for the community of Independence,” said Cori Day, Director of Independence Tourism. “The NCRHA will love coming to Independence. This town has a hockey fan base and will welcome this championship event with open arms.”
