American Mountain Bike Challenge Calendar Released for 2014 USA Cycling has announced the dates and venues for the 18th season of the American Mountain Bike Challenge (AMBC).The 2014 calendar will consist of 11 events contested in 10 different states and spanning from March to November. The AMBC was created in 1996 to provide opportunities for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities. Each stop on the series offers crosscountry races, while some events may host short-track cross country, downhill, observed trials or super D competitions as well. Report: San Diego Encouraged to Bid for 2024 Summer Games News recently broke that San Diego has been encouraged to put in a bid to host the Summer Olympics a decade from now in 2024. An article from ABC 10 News, a local news station affiliate, recently detailed some San Diego officials’ willingness to pursue putting in a bid. However, according to the article, not everyone is in agreement; San Diego State University Sports MBA Director Scott Minto says that historically, cities that win the games pay a huge financial price. Wilmington Grand Prix Riding High For the seventh straight year, Delaware’s premier cycling competition has been certified as a National Calendar event by USA Cycling, putting this year’s Wilmington Grand Prix among the nation’s most prestigious races, the Delaware Sports Commission announced.Top professional racers are expected to gather in Wilmington May 16-18 for three days of events that pass through some of the state’s most scenic byways, attracting cycling fans from across the region and pumping thousands of dollars into the state’s economy, according to David Arthur, executive director of the Delaware Sports Commission, which has the mission of bringing national sporting events like the Wilmington Grand Prix to Delaware. Golf Industry Show Concludes, Heads to San Antonio in 2015 The 2015 Golf Industry Show is headed to the Lone Star State and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Feb. 21-26. This marks the first time in more than two decades that GCSAA’s education conference and trade show have visited the Alamo City. “We’re absolutely thrilled that we’re able to take the Golf Industry Show back to San Antonio,” Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) CEO Rhett Evans said. “Our members have expressed nothing but enthusiasm about our decision to return to San Antonio, and we’re confident that the momentum created by our successful visit to Orlando this year will carry over into our visit to Texas next February.” This Summer Lacrosse is a Beach in New Jersey What organizers say is “the only Beach Lacrosse Tournament in the United States” is being held in Wildwood, New Jersey, this summer. Teams from all over the East Coast and beyond compete on the beaches of Wildwood, as well as enjoy the waterparks and beach during the day and the famous Wildwood boardwalk and amusements in the evening. The 5V5 summer tournament is scheduled from July 19 - 20,2014. OKC to Host ITU Long Distance Triathlon Worlds The International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced that USA Triathlon, Friends of Multisport, Inc. and the Redman Triathlon have been awarded the 2016 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships, to be held in Oklahoma City, Okla.“The fact that we are able to secure local organizing committees so far in advance is a strong indicator in both the popularity of ITU races and the growth of the sport,” said Marisol Casado, ITU President and IOC Member. “We are thrilled to again work with USA Triathlon to host the championships, as they’ve proven to be an excellent federation that produces top-tier events.”
