JULI ANNE PATTY has written for Sports Destination Management since the magazine’s creation, working with sports event owners and CVBs all across North America. A traveling freelance writer, Juli combines her interests in travel, writing and sports to help destinations and rights owners create the most unique and successful events possible. JENNY WIERSCHEM has nearly 15 years of experience as a writer and editor, working across subject areas, including health and education. A graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the University of Oregon, she has worked for a range of nonprofit and for-profit organizations and is currently a full-time freelancer in Baltimore, Maryland. PETER FRANCESCONI has been in publishing for more than 25 years, working with newspapers, a wire service and magazines. He is the editor of Tennis Industry, the world’s largest tennis trade publication, and through his company, Ace Media Group, he works closely with the Tennis Industry Association and other groups in communications, marketing and public relations. He was managing editor of Tennis Magazine from 1990 to 1999 and editorial director of Tennis’s custom publishing division from 1999 to 2009. MICHAEL POPKE is an award-winning journalist with 25 years of professional experience in print and digital media. For 15 years, he was managing editor of Athletic Business, the leading business-to-business magazine and website for athletic, fitness and recreation professionals. He also has coached baseball, basketball and softball, worked as a USA Swimming stroke-and-turn official and is an avid high school sports and aquatics safety supporter. Michael owns Two Lakes Media Group and lives in the Madison, Wisconsin, area. MARK LUCAS is the executive director for the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA). He has worked with people who are blind and visually impaired for more than 25 years. USABA is a Colorado-based 501(c) (3) organization that provides life-enriching sports opportunities for every individual with a visual impairment. USABA provides athletic opportunities in various sports including track and field, Nordic and alpine skiing, biathlon, judo, wrestling, swimming, tandem cycling, powerlifting and goalball. Www.usaba.org DENISE STOKES loves words and has a passion for finding, pitching and writing about the many different stories that tell others what Frisco and working with the Frisco CVB is really all about. She can’t do it on her own and works closely with local, regional and national media. For her, it’s all about keeping the eyeballs and ears of an audience and driving the message: Frisco is Just My Kind of City. She has a couple of degrees, has been a radio personality and television news writer, teaches and really wants to get a Golden Retriever puppy, too. Denise is a movie buff who waits for everything to come on cable and refuses to play Words With Friends on her mobile phone because she wants to keep her job. She holds the position of program director, data analysis and management for Enterprise Community Partners in Columbia, Maryland. Her work has given her a strong background in events and in evaluating program effectiveness. She received a BA from the University of Detroit and holds the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE) and Institutes from Organizational Management (IOM), US Chamber of Commerce. She is an active community volunteer as well.
