Qualifying ends at noon on June 16, but many candidates and incumbents get on the ballot using the petition (signature) method, and begin collecting signatures for veri fi cation by the Supervisor of Elections of fi ce this coming spring. In a quick check of Supervisor of Elections web site, a total of four (4) candidates have fi led for the District 4 Commission seat occupied by Board of County Commission Chair Chereese Stewart who will be term-limited next November. So far, in the other term-limited BCC seat occupied by Commissioner Doug Conkey (Dist. 2), only one person has opened up a campaign account – former school board member Wayne Bolla. Bolla opened his war chest with over $32,000 in contributions Continued on page 24 2nd Annual Black Creek 5K Run A Huge Success Submitted by Nick Thompson Saturday mornings in northeast Florida are usually reserved for sleeping in. Don't tell that to the almost 400 participants who completed the 2nd Annual Black Creek 5K Run in old downtown Middleburg on Saturday, October 26th. They'll just tell you to go back to bed! Elijah Austin, 5 years old from Middleburg loved picking out his very own pumpkin. As the sun was just peaking over the horizon, horizon men and women, women young and old, old crowded together at the start line of the 3.1 mile race (about the length of the Buckman Bridge) in anticipation of fi nishing, each with his or her own best time. An extra long wick on the canon used to sound the race's start, only added to the anxiety of each runner. Once the race started, runners quickly began to pace themselves along Main Street and the many 100 year old homes in this historic community.
