Department of Plant & Environmental Sciences Departmental News Items — January 2009, Vol. 1: Issue 1 In tro uctio d n: The Plant and Environmental Sciences Department has outstanding faculty and staff working on many exciting projects. Unfortunately, we often get so busy we may lose sight of our fellow workers’ accomplishments. To improve communication, not only within the department, but also with our administration, we want to ‘brag’ on our accomplishments. Each month, we will highlight our outcomes in each area of our mission areas: teaching, research, and service. I hope you will help me in this task by submitting brief reports on your accomplishments. These can be in the form of an abbreviated abstract from a recently published manuscript, a report on a meeting or presentation, a field trip or other teaching/outreach activity. Where possible, please include a photograph or figure emphasizing the activity. We also will share these accomplishments with our constituents and administrators; esp. when we receive requests for “Good News for the Regents” and research news for the VPR. Jessica Phillips will organize the Newsletter, and send out a monthly reminder.
