Oh, the places you can go.... ONE OF OUR FAVORITE DR. SEUSS BOOKS is entitled, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! It’s actually a story about embarking on new journeys and facing down our challenges, but it’s also a great slogan for us as we head into the busy sports season. Traveling to a new destination can be fun, but it can also be challenging and sometimes, just a little scary. We’re trusting our instincts and we’re hoping that the venue we’ve picked out, and the personnel we’ve selected to help us handle our event, will result in an all-around win. We’d like to see happy athletes, great weather, fun times and financial success — and if we’re really lucky, requests from our participants for a return visit. This is where Sports Destination Management makes it a point to step up to the plate and help you improve your batting average. In this special NASC preview, we’ve compiled some great places for you to consider for your next event. Some may be favorites of yours and others may be brand new ideas for you to consider. The great news is they all are ready to host a wide range of sports, from the traditional to the extreme, and everything in between. Do you like softball, soccer or swimming? Here are the sites. Thinking of hosting cheerleading, dance or gymnastics? They have that covered too. And for athletes who want to go allout with everything from cyclocross to stand-up paddling to obstacle racing, you’ll find those venues here as well. As the sports tourism industry has evolved, so have the options open to event owners. Facilities are top-notch (and getting better all the time) and cities are actively courting your business. It’s the best-possible scenario for our industry, and gives us boundless optimism for a healthy and happy traveling public. We want you to head into the 21st annual NASC Sports Event Symposium (to be held April 22-25 in Louisville, Kentucky) with the knowledge that your options are as wide-open as the great outdoors, and that you can afford to be as unlimited and flexible as any of the athletes you’ll be hearing about on these pages. So go ahead and start reading. The professionals at These venues stand ready to make your event a success. They’ll gladly provide examples of events they’ve hosted, and success stories to help make your decision an easy one. Many destinations also provide a wide range of services from volunteers to help out, to suggestions for vendors, to financial assistance in the form of grants. And this year’s Symposium is one you definitely won’t want to miss. You’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of having all the contacts you want, all the people you want to reach, and everything you want to learn — in one place. It’s one-stop shopping for all your sports travel needs. In addition, you won’t want to miss the following: • NASC Sports Marketplace — the best trade show of the year, and the one you’ll be glad you visited, with the opportunity to make one-on-one appointments • Spring CSEE module — the chance to advance yourself in our dynamic, ever-changing profession • A plethora of sessions taught by your peers in the industry, as well as experts who bring skills from other sectors • Even your down-time is valuable, with receptions, tours and more. Need some more incentive to attend? Check out these statistics, compiled by our friends at NASC after the 2012 Symposium: • The average attendee meets 47 prospects and generates $400,000 in new business at the NASC Symposium • 95% of attendees recommend the NASC Symposium to a colleague • 88% of attendees state they will likely do business with someone they meet at the NASC Symposium • 92% of attendees rate the NASC Symposium as excellent or good • 95% of 2012 attendees are planning to attend in 2013. Need still more incentive? Let’s just put it this way. It’s the show of the year, and if you’re not there, you’ve let yourself fall a step behind. Make your plans now. The special link is www.nascsymposium.com. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the NASC Symposium, and just as important, we’re looking forward to hearing about where you’re going this year and what you’re planning. As our industry continues to grow, we’re eager to cover growing sports, and the destinations that are establishing themselves as, literally, the ‘go-to’ places to host them. And so, in the immortal words of Dr. Seuss, we now introduce you to those destinations that wait for you, at NASC and beyond: Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball will make you the winning-est winner of all.
