JULI ANNE PATTY has written for Sports Destination Management since the magazine’s creation, working with sports event owners and CVBs all across North America. A traveling freelance writer, Juli combines her interests in travel, writing and sports to help destinations and rights owners create the most unique and successful events possible. AMY HENDERSON has been writing for Sports Destination Management since January 2009, working closely with rights holders, event planners, sports commissions and CVBs on their destinations and sports events. With over 20 years of experience in sports events and hospitality, including several seasons in the NBA and motorsports industry, SDM is a perfect fit. When not writing for SDM, Amy runs a Destination Management Company, Carolina Arrangements, in North Carolina. PETER FRANCESCONI has been in publishing for more than 25 years, working with newspapers, a wire service and magazines. He is the editor of Racquet Sports Industry, the world’s largest tennis trade publication, and through his company, Ace Media Group, he works closely with the Tennis Industry Association and other groups in communications, marketing and public relations. He was managing editor of Tennis Magazine from 1990 to 1999 and editorial director of Tennis’s custom publishing division from 1999 to 2009. KELLY MARTIN has been involved in the event security industry since 1996. He started off on the front lines and moved into management while working for the largest event security and crowd management company. In 2000, he created Event GUARD Services, based just east of Los Angeles. More than a decade later, he has worked in the preparation and execution of thousands of safe and secure events nationwide. He continues to drive Event GUARD Services in an expanding and growing direction. ROBIN LEE has been General Manager of Quest Sports Travel since 2008, and an International Sports Tour Architect since 2004. He previously was an event coordinator in the Athletic Department at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY while gaining his MBA. He uses his experience as a site host and travel planner at Quest Sports Travel, a provider of customized domestic and international sports tours to schools, colleges, and youth groups from across the United States TARA MCCARTHY is the race director certification manager at USA Cycling, the NGB for competitive and recreational bicycling. An essential aspect of her job has been the creation of an education program for those who are planning to put on bicycle events. She played competitive rugby for 12 years, and has also competed in triathlons, mountain bike races and other bicycle events. TOM FUNK is general manager for ARAMARK at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, and is responsible for the ballpark’s food and beverage, catering and retail operations. He also served as Citi Field’s director of operations, and had been that venue's division manager of concessions. Previously, Funk was the director of operations for Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and a manager at Roger Dean Stadium in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. DAN CLOPPAS is the CEO/Secretary-General of USA Badminton (“‘Secretary-General’ is used for international events, which recognize that title rather than “‘CEO,’” he says.). Since taking over the reigns at USAB in 1999, following a 26-year career as an Air Force officer that included working closely with the U.S. Olympic Committee, Cloppas has worked to develop top-notch Olympic training and feeder programs, cultivate grassroots efforts, bring more value to the membership, and identify sponsor and partnership opportunities for the organization.
