I usually only fi nish a chapter or two before falling asleep with the Kindle. I am halfway through 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus , by Charles C. Mann, and Aristocrats: Britain’s Great Ruling Class from 1066 to Present , by Lawrence James. 1491 is interesting because it explores the impact of humanity, especially the built condition, in the New World. Aristocrats came after watching “Downton Abbey,” because I wanted to understand the history behind the great country homes.
