A Su ccess at TSASA ’s Octoberfest horse show

This year, the NEHC Western/ Reining Seat Medal Finals were held at the Eastern States Exposition Center during the Twin State American Saddlebred Association’s 2009 Octoberfest Horse Show.

During the 2009 show season, 14 junior riders and 17 adult riders qualified in Western Medal classes that were held in each of the six New England states.

On Saturday morning, October 24, Phase I of the Western Medal began with 11 Junior and 13 Adult riders participating in the competition. Each participant performed rail work and then rode a pattern. Later in the day riders returned to the coliseum to ride another pattern in Phase II.

The judges for the Western Medal were Buck Grass from Magnolia, Texas, and David Phillips from Penn Yan, N.Y. Winners from third to 11th place in the junior class and from third place to 13th place in the adult class received a messenger bag, gift certificates donated by Smith Brothers, a tail bag, a fly mask, and shipping boots.

All of the junior riders were given a gift from Stephanie Miranda, who was the winner of the 2008 Junior Western Medal Championship.

The committee was honored to have the following people in attendance: Marilyn Childs of Vermont, a great supporter of the Medal, and Katie Glatz, a representative from William Woods University.

The NEHC Western/Reining Seat Committee consists of Camille W. Pepin of Rhode Island, Kathleen Keefe of New Hampshire, Loreen Pirello of New Hampshire, Anne Messina of Massachusetts, Ginny Kavanagh of Massachusetts, Jim Mullaly of Massachusetts, Marilyn Childs of Vermont, and Sally Hill of Massachusetts, as treasurer.
