Unclaimed Property Reports

The Iowa unclaimed property law, Code of Iowa Chapter 556, requires all cities to report and submit all unclaimed property to the State Treasurer’s office. This report must be filed on or before November 1 of each year, covering items that are undeliverable to the owner and unclaimed for the specified period, known as a dormancy period. Penalties and interest of up to 25 percent of the unclaimed property could be assessed if not filed correctly or on time.
