Welcome to Newport Harbor…
…the finest natural harbor on the East Coast! The City of Newport is home
to spectacular coastal scenery, awe-inspiring architecture, a thriving downtown
waterfront, welcoming hospitality, and is considered by many to be a shining gem
in the coastal crown of New England.
Welcome also to the Newport Harbor Guide, which in its 16th year continues
to provide our visitors as well as local mariners with practical “insider” tips on navigating the local waters. In the Guide you’ll find informative award-winning Harbor maps, pump out and trash locations, dinghy docks, emergency contacts, local boating regulations, tide tables, and US Customs, Homeland Security and Border Protection procedures. In the back, there’s a handy directory of area services and attractions for Newport, Jamestown and Narragansett Bay.
Mariners should note that Newport’s main cruise ship season is the Fall.
September and October are the busiest. Ships normally anchor west of Goat
Island and shuttle their passengers into Perrotti Park via tenders. No vessel is
allowed within a 200 yard Security Zone around any cruise ship without permission of the Captain of the Port.
Harbor Management falls under the City of Newport’s Economic Development

The Harbormaster’s office is located in the northeast corner of the Harbor in
Perrotti Park at 39 America's Cup Avenue, near the ferry and cruise ship tender
docks. Office hours are Monday through Friday 0800-1600, telephone
401-845-5815, or email to tmills@cityofnewport.com. Harbor Management
operates three patrol boats, two 25' and the other 20' in length that can be
reached on VHF Channel 16 (working Channel 14).
